IoT-Based Environmental and Gas Sensing for Real-Time Monitoring

IoT-Based Environmental and Gas Sensing for Real-Time Monitoring

Environmental and gas monitoring systems are critical for air quality management, industrial safety, pollution control, and laboratory environments. However, many existing solutions are bulky, power-hungry, and unsuitable for portable or battery-operated use. These limitations make continuous monitoring, flexible deployment, and long-term data logging difficult, especially in scenarios that require compact form factors and wireless data access.

This project presents a compact, battery-efficient multi-gas and environmental sensing module with wireless IoT capability. The system integrates temperature, humidity, air pressure, VOC sensing, and multi-gas detection into a single module. Sensor data is captured in real time, displayed locally, transmitted wirelessly to a browser-based dashboard, and exported as CSV files for analysis. A configurable sleep–wake cycle is implemented to reduce power consumption and extend battery life.

This project demonstrates how a compact sensor module can deliver comprehensive environmental and gas monitoring while maintaining low power consumption and wireless accessibility. Development platforms such as the IndusBoard Coin provide the processing, connectivity, and interface support required for integrating multiple sensors, managing power-efficient operation, and building browser-based IoT dashboards. Such architectures are well-suited for prototyping and deploying portable environmental monitoring systems where size, efficiency, and flexibility are critical.
